cover letter
Over the course of the semester in this class, we have been reading about "space", " place" and "self", and we have done writing about those concepts in our persuasive essays. However, I feel that the work we have done so far are simply abstract and broad, so in this text-based memoir assignment, I narrowed the topic specifically to how place is connected to choice making in life.
How did I come up with this idea? When I was travelling in Boston a few weeks ago, I observed that there were many rotary in the city of Boston which reminded me of one of my experience with a rotary when I was in the middle school. So basically, what happened back then was that I was randomly walking on the street and I was not sure where to go. I could not make a choice immediately in front of the rotary given that I was not determined and resolute enough. I later than realised that a rotary symbolised millions of intersections in life where I would have to make decisions. And more importantly, I needed to be brave to make a choice. I do not want to give too much details of how the experience is connected to choice making as you can read more in the memoir.
When I was creating this piece, I had some difficulty of recalling all of the details of what I did. So, some of the things I write may not be exactly the same as what I actually did. But I have tried to describe the details to the best I can and they will not affect the whole picture of the memoir.
In addition, although the I feel confident in my memoir, I believe that since I am writing my own personal experience and thought, it may be hard for an outsider to understand what have happened. In order to solve this problem, I will draw a map that represents the progress of the event so that the audience can visualise my work.
I will not only publish this memoir on my personal website, but also deliver presentation on my memoir in the ENG 221RW class. So overall, the intended audience can experience my memoir through reading pure text, looking at the map and listening to my presentation--creating a multimodal project.
